Safer Driving With Age (S.A.G.E) - Learner Driving Perth

The good news:

People are living longer and have a real need to get around. Mobility enhances their lives and is precious to them and their wellbeing.

The bad news:

Many will have been driving for 50 to 60 years or more. Nobody has been there to support their driving needs - at all.

Learner Driving Perth with support from Perth and Kinross Council Community Safety Partnership as well as Specsavers and Boots Pharmacy and Opticians are launching S.A.G.E. on 15 February 2011. This is the only comprehensive locally available support mechanism to enable older drivers to remain on the road safely for as long as they remain able to drive.

S.A.G.E. has been running successfully for 12 years in Glouster and its launch here in Perth is a 'first' in Scotland. S.A.G.E. has attracted serious interest from as far afield as Japan! So what is it?

It is a three stage process designed to check vision, prescribed medication and a driving assessment   An Optician will conduct a vision test and a Pharmacist will review current medication to ensure that they carry no undesirable side effects for drivers. The driving assessment will be for an hours duration in your own car and on roads you normally use to travel around. It is definitely NOT a test but is designed to assess your current driving and to offer advice and guidance as appropriate. You will gain a sense of achievement which will boost your confidence on the road.

You get all this for £25.00. A very small investment in your safety as an older driver.
